Norwalk Softball Family Needs Help Good Morning,
My name is Justin Lehn and I'm president of Norwalk Girls Softball; Norwalk, Connecticut's youth softball organization. Every spring, our communities come together to cheer on our players and teams, enjoy the weather and support the children in our cities and towns. I don't think it is lost on anyone that the driving force underpinning youth softball and all youth sports, is a collective love for our children and a strong sense of community with any family involved in our children's chosen sports. This is why I am so deeply saddened to announce that a member of Norwalk's softball family, 7 year old Summer Fawcett, passed away early Saturday morning in a house fire. Her parents and older brother were able to escape. Summer's parents, Blair and Lindsay, heroically attempted to rescue Summer, but the fire was too advanced at that point. Both parents suffered significant burns and injuries in their rescue attempt and are still hospitalized. Norwalk firefighters quickly pulled Summer from the home when they arrived on scene, but, sadly, Summer succumbed to her injuries at the hospital Saturday morning.
On top of the unimaginable loss of life, the Fawcett family is without a home, without vehicles (both were lost in the fire), and without all of their worldly possessions. They will also likely need ongoing care for their injuries. They were left with nothing and will face the monumental task of starting their life over while grieving the loss of Summer.
I am writing to ask that we, as a sports community, ease the burden of the Fawcett family in the near future by removing financial stress during this difficult time. Summer's extended family has set up a go fund me:
GoFundMe.
I had a long conversation with the go fund me organizer and the entire extended family is in complete shock. Please consider donating and feel free to reference your organization to let the Fawcetts know they have your community behind them. If you are not comfortable with go fund me, there is an address on the above linked page where checks made out to Blair and Lindsay Fawcett can be sent.
Sincerely,
Justin Lehn
